The FIU women’s soccer team is taking on the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers on Friday, Sep. 29, 2023 in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Playing in their first of six consecutive Conference USA matchups to end the season, the Panthers look to bounce back after a shutout loss to the FAU Owls on Sunday, Sep. 24, 2023.
Unable to find the back of the, FIU took a 2-0 shutout loss to FAU due to the play of senior goalkeeper Lexi Gonzalez.
Despite their record dropping to 7-3-1 following the loss, they look to continue their strong season, having the best win percentage through their first 11 games since 2010.
Having a slightly more successful outing in their most recent game, Western Kentucky is coming off of a 1-1 tie against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.
Incrementally improving their record to 2-2-6 following the tie, the Lady Toppers look to turn around their slow season.
Providing a silver lining for a struggling team, graduate student forward Katie Erwin was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week two weeks ago after scoring three goals over two games that week.
Historically, Western Kentucky has dominated the series against the Panthers, as they have won all four matchups when they’ve faced off.
Even though they have only won two games this season, the Lady Toppers still technically remain undefeated against other CUSA teams this season.
Only playing two games against conference opponents, they took an exclamatory 3-0 victory over Middle Tennessee and a 1-1 tie against Jacksonville State.
While impressive considering their record, FIU still holds a better record in conference play, as they are the truly undefeated team.
Over two games played against CUSA opponents, the Panthers hold a 2-0 record and have scored six goals while only allowing one.
Looking to continue their dominant season, FIU looks to claim their first victory over Western Kentucky in school history.
Trying to keep pace through the remainder of the season, the FIU women’s soccer team is taking on the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers on Friday, Sep. 29, 2023 at the WKU Soccer Complex in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
