On this day in 2010, the baseball program locked down a series win against the Warhawks of the University of Louisiana-Monroe. This happened with a 13-3 victory at FIU Baseball Stadium.
The weather, which was described by FIU Athletics as “Hot and Steamy,” lasted from a 6 p.m. start to almost 9 p.m. and had 388 fans show up.
On that night, right-handed pitcher Aaron Arboleya got his season record to 4-1. He had 87 pitches in six innings while giving up three runs and four hits.
The other pitchers in the game were right-handed Jorge Marban, who had a 2-inning outing and left-handed Justin Leith who came into the game to close.
FIU started off strong with outfielder Pablo Bermudez getting on base after being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first. After stealing second base, he got brought in by infielder Garrett Wittels for the only score in the first two innings.
The third inning gave the Panthers a much increased lead when four players got around to score. However, it was outdone when the bottom of the fourth inning got the Panthers to a 12-1 lead with seven runs.
The Panthers rounded out their scoring in the bottom of inning No. 8 with a infielder/outfielder Rudy Flores RBI by bringing in outfielder Yoandy Barroso.
This win got the Panthers to 25-17 overall and a 12-8 record in the Sun Belt Conference.
